It is 23.6 seconds faster around the Nurburgring as the regular GT4.
Stuttgart’s Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is not a secret. Although we are getting closer to the official launch of the car, our spy photographers have seen it testing several times. The automaker announced today that the sports car is now in its final testing phase, with the official launch expected to take place sometime next month. Porsche also shared photos of the top-tier Cayman Model.
It’s been seen numerous times and hasn’t received any camouflage so it’s not surprising that the car’s design is revealed. The car looks exactly as you would expect. It has an aggressive but simple front end design, paired with a blunt-looking spoiler. Porsche is still keeping the details of how the model was modified to be worthy of the RS badge under wraps. These details will likely be revealed next month along with the reveal.
Andreas Preuninger, Porsche’s Director GT Model Line, stated that the 718 Cayman GT4 RS was given everything necessary to be a true RS. This includes lightweight construction, more power and an even greater level of responsiveness to driver inputs. The Nordschleife’s incredible lap times are a testament to how evident these improvements in driving dynamics have been.
These improvements result in real-world performance increases. Porsche brand ambassador and development driver Jorg Bergmeister took the coupe to the Nurburgring-Nordschleife circuit, completing the shorter 20.6-kilometer (12.8-mile) lap in 7:04.511 minutes – 23.6 seconds quicker than the regular Cayman GT4. Porsche modified the car to improve driver safety. The car was fitted with a racing seat, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup R tires. However, these tires will not be available for purchase.
Although the details of its powertrain remain unknown, we do know that the GT4 is powered by Porsche’s flat-six 4.0-liter engine. Although the GT4’s engine produces 414 horsepower (308 kilowatts), and 309 poundfeet (418 Newton meters) of torque, it is rumored that the GT4 RS can produce as much as 500 hp (372 kW). The GT4 RS’s impressive lap times indicate that it packs a powerful performance punch.
