Nick Heidfeld is one of only 29 people to have one. He also has a Carrera GT.
The 959 Porsche is one of the most unique Porsches. From 1987 to 1988, only 292 cars were produced. The Sport version, which is more powerful, was built in 29 examples. Nick Heidfeld, a former Formula 1 driver, had a 959 S. He took it to Porsche Classic for a complete refresh that took just over three years.
The white supercar, which has a very low mileage of 4,183 km (2,599 mi), was in the garage from summer 2017 to December 2021. The 959S is being shown by Porsche. It has undergone a thorough technical overhaul. Porsche Classic informed the ex-BMW Sauber driver that the engine management system of the car had been modified. However, the problem was resolved by returning the Motronic unit back to its OEM specifications.
The car’s oily parts were damaged by not being driven for a long time. Uwe Makrutzki is Head of Factory Restoration at Porsche Classic. To avoid future problems, he says that the powertrain and chassis should be completely overhauled in such an instance. Owners are encouraged to drive their vehicles at least 62 miles (100 km) per month in order to avoid future problems.
Heidfeld’s 959 is a Sport model. It does not have central locking, electric windows, or automatic air conditioning. The standard model has the rear seats, mirror and central locking removed. However, the self-leveling suspension is still available. These changes were made in order to reduce weight. The final result was 1,350 kilograms (2.976 lb).
Porsche engineers installed larger turbochargers that could run at a higher boost level to the 959 S. The power was increased to 508 horsepower and 561 Nm (414 Lb-ft) which allowed for a 0-60 mph (100 km/h), run of just 3.7 seconds, and a top speed at 211 mph (339km/h).
Heidfeld also owns a 911 GT2 of the 996 generation and a Carrera GT. However, his garage also includes a few non-Porsche models like a 1965 Ford Mustang or a classic Volkswagen Beetle convertible.
