Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid faces the 911 Turbo S. Will the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid out-muscle it?
A few months back, Autocar put an Audi R8V10 against a Porsche Panamera Turbo S EHybrid in drag racing. The Panamera dominated the Audi at the quarter-mile mark. The Panamera returns to face a new challenger, the 911 TurboS. It’s exciting to see if the Panamera can beat the R8 with more power.
The 911 Turbo S’s twin-turbocharged flat-6 turbocharged flat-six of 3.8-liters is unbeatable for acceleration. It produces 580 horsepower and 516 pound-feet. The Panamera’s punch is definitely not the panamera’s. The super sedan produces 680 horsepower and 626 lb-ft torque from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. The main difference is the difference in weight between them. The Panamera weighs in at 5,315 lbs, while the 911 is only 3,515 lbs. The numbers are too close to call.
To get the best start, both were put in launch mode. The 911 and Panamera got off to an excellent start. The 911 never surpassed a few cars lengths throughout the race.
The Panamera won the race but it is still a great sedan and should not be underestimated. The Panamera was 11.4 seconds slower than the 911, which crossed the line in 10.8 seconds. It speaks volumes that the Panamera was only a second slower than the 911. The 911 S is currently the king of quarter-mile between the two siblings, but not by much.
