Porsche Sold 300,000.+ Cars in 2021, and The Taycan Outsold the 911

Zuffenhausen set a new record for sales despite the microchip shortage and coronavirus pandemic.

Here we go again. Porsche makes a similar announcement after Bentley posted record sales for 2021. Due to an increase in global demand, the magic number is 301 915. This is 11 percent more than last year. China was once again the largest single market, with an eight percent increase to 95,671 vehicles. The United States accounted for 70,025 of the total sales with a 22 percent growth.

Sales in Germany rose nine percent to 28,565 units. This helped Porsche increase customer demand in Europe by seven per cent to 86.160 cars. Interestingly, around 40% of cars shipped to the Old Continent in 2021 were either a plugin hybrid or purely electric. An added surprise is Zuffenhausen’s solid growth, given the shortage of microchips and the disruption to the automotive industry by the coronavirus pandemic.

It won’t surprise you that the Macan is the company’s most-sold product. In 2021, the crossover’s popularity reached 88,362 homes. The Cayenne was not far behind, as the SUV’s larger counterpart sold 83,071 units over the past 12 months. Since the electric sedan/wagon duo outsold 911, the Taycan is the wind of change.

In 2021, the EV was delivered 41,296 times to buyers. The rear-engined vehicle generated 38,464 sales. It is impressive that the Taycan outsold the 911. This is even more impressive when you consider the six-cylinder sports car’s best year ever, which set a new all time sales record. Porsche is pleased to announce that the zero-emission model has more than doubled its annual sales.

Next was the Panameralineup, which had 30,220 deliveries. The 718 Boxster/ Cayman portfolio accounted to 20,502 of total sales.

Detlev Von Platen, Porsche’s sales manager, says that 2022 will be a record year. “Demand remains high and our orders books are looking very strong.”
