Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo, Coupe, Convertible Under Consideration

It is possible to get a base, all-wheel-drive Taycan 4 sedan.

Many people have asked Porsche for a Sport Turismo version of the Mission E Cross Turismo since its debut at the Geneva Motor Show three-years ago. According to Stefan Weckbach, product manager at Autocar new information suggests that it may happen. He said that additional Taycan derivatives were being considered for the sedan and high-riding wagon.

He did not confirm a Taycan Sport Turismo but he acknowledged the shared use of the J1 electric platform. Audi E-Tron GT It is “perfect for future product ideas and we are looking in different directions.” It is possible that it will happen, considering the transition from Cross to Sport would not be difficult. Porsche would just need to remove the body cladding from the sedan and bring the suspension down to the sedan’s level.

Weckbach mentioned that the architecture was designed to allow for a Taycan convertible. However, Porsche isn’t sure if such a derivative will be able to make a business case. The demand for cabriolets is down significantly over the past two decades. An electric version would have a tough sell because of the high premium EVs command over vehicles with combustion engines. The second-generation Tesla Roadster has been delayed multiple times. This is a sign that the market may not be ready for an electric convertible in mass production.

A coupe is another possible member of the Taycan expanding family. Porsche has been mulling over the possibility of a two-door Panamera in modern-day 928 form for many years. However, it has yet to materialize. A smaller, lighter version of the sedan or wagon would be nice. Autocar reports that it is less likely that a two-door Taycan will be produced with a fixed roof.

Yesterday’s jacked-up wagon was unveiled. We noticed a Taycan Cross Turismo4. Although Porsche doesn’t sell a non-S4 version of this sedan, Weckbach knows that some people are interested in an all-wheel-drive Taycan sedan. The 4S is priced at $103,800, while the Taycan’s single-motor rear-wheel-drive Taycan starts at $79,900. This would make it a lower-priced option.

Porsche is finishing up the next generation Macan before a possible expansion to the Taycan line-up. This EV will be available. It will not ride on the J1 platform, as it will use the PPE platform that Zuffenhausen and Audi are creating together. It will go on sale in 2022, along with a QRon. Weckbach states that “there will be an day when we speak about an electric Cayenne.”

Although fully electric versions of the Boxster/Cayman/ 911 won’t be coming soon, it has been confirmed that the latter will get a hybrid engine. Porsche had previously stated that the electrified 911 would prioritize performance and power over efficiency, but acknowledged that the additional weight caused by the batteries was a major problem during development.
