Porsche claims it is “a vision for the day after tomorrow.”
The brand finally released photos of the interior of the Porsche Vision Renndienst electric van model after unveiled it in November 2020. Although there is seating for six, it is not as arranged as you might think.
The driver is seated in the front with a view out of a windscreen that curves around him. In a nod towards the Porsches of the past, there’s a digital instrument cluster that shows five round gauges. The dashboard has haptic buttons on both sides.
The pilot’s seat can also pivot 180 degrees so that he or she can communicate easily with passengers.
Each second-row passenger gets their own chair. To give you a clear view of the windshield, the seats are offset to the right and left. This design creates a large area in central for easy access to the third row.
Because of the asymmetrical window layout, the person on the right can only see out of the small sliver of glass that is to their side. The occupant to the right however has a large window that allows them to see beyond.
The third row can be used as a bench. Porsche has floating headrests that allow the driver to see out of the rear windows even when nobody is there.
“We considered how we could give a Porsche-like feel to a compartment so different from the sports-car interior.” And how autonomous driving could be designed,” chief designer Michael Mauer said.
Porsche does not intend to put the Vision Renndienst concept in production. It is a stylistic exercise to see what possibilities are. The model is called “a vision for the day after tomorrow” by the company.
The Vision Renndienst was built by Porsche in 2018, but it wasn’t revealed to the public until 2020. The unveiling was one of 15 previously unshown designs that were published in a book called Porsche Unseen.
