Porsche Vision Renndienst Is Proof An Electric Van Can Be Cool

This is not a rendering by a third party, but an official Porsche 1:1 scale model.

Is the world going mad? A Porsche minivan? The Vision Renndienst is a unique one-off, and purists won’t be angry about the idea of a family hauler sporting the Porsche crest. It’s actually not a car at all, as this is just a 1:1 scale model that was created in 2018 to test the revolutionary concept for a Porsche minivan.

It is one of 15 Zuffenhausen designs that were created between 2005 and 2019. They are now being released in a new book called “Porsche Unseen.”

To maximize interior space, the EV bits and pieces were all installed underbody. The cabin can accommodate six people, although it is not clearly shown in the video or images. The teaser showed that there is a driver’s seat and two passengers each in a McLaren F1-like layout. There are three additional seats at the back.

The Vision Renndienst is a stylish minivan that you will love, even if you don’t like them. Its minimalist front and rear lights lend it a futuristic feel, similar to the small side cameras and the short overhangs. The tailgate is adorned with the “Sport Tourer”, and there’s even an optional roof spoiler.

The scale model, which is called Renndienst (“Racing Service”), is being displayed alongside an old VW T1 bearing the Porsche Rennsport (“Racing”) branding. Porsche must have envisioned the concept to be a support vehicle for a hypothetical race car, rather than a simple minivan for the kids to take to soccer practice.

The Porsche Vision Renndienst will not be in production soon, despite the fact that it is a risky proposition. You’ll have to settle with a production version VW’s ID Buzz, due to arrive in 2022.
