Ram Dakota successor confirmed, diesel engine possible - report

Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler CEO, has announced plans to build a brand new Ram Dakota. It could use a diesel engine that was used in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler CEO, has confirmed plans for a new Ram Dakota (formerly Dodge Dakota).

Marchionne spoke to journalists at North American International Auto Show and stated that there is a better than 50% chance the model will feature unibody construction. Although this will upset purists, it could make the truck lighter and more fuel-efficient.

Although engine options are still unknown, the executive suggested that there might be a diesel engine in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Although there is no information on when the Dakota might launch, past reports indicate that it may appear in late 2013 or early 2014
