The Ford RS200 is a special car. The Ford RS200 is a mid-engined sports car that was built with one goal in mind: to conform with FIA homologation rules. It has a short production history, spanning only three model years. Only 200 of the required 200 examples were built by the automaker, and 24 of these were later transformed into the more powerful Evolution models.
The current owner purchased this 1986 sports car from Norway in 2017. It received a complete engine rebuild in England before it was shipped to the United States one year later. It’s clear that the RS200 engine is not designed to last.
The Evolution models featured a revised four-cylinder engine that had a displacement of 2.0 liters, compared to 1.8 liters in the standard units. The exact configuration of the engine will vary, but it is estimated to produce 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts). The engine was completely rebuilt in factory condition in February 2018. It currently has an upgraded Holley fuel pump, stainless-steel lines, and an upgraded Holley fuel line.
This garage queen is not, despite its special status. It’s only 500 miles (800 km) old so it’s not brand new. But, there is nothing to be concerned about. The interior could use some attention and the exterior could benefit from a polish. However, we don’t think it is too much to ask if you just let it be and drive it as hard as you can.
Did we mention the price? It is currently at $280,000 with eight days remaining before the auction ends.
