Toyota does not have the necessary parts to make the SUV, but buyers want them.
The new Toyota Land Cruiser is a hit with buyers. According to Cars guide, it could take up to four years for the automaker to meet current demand for certain trim levels. This situation is getting worse.
Since August 2, when Toyota began accepting orders for the Land Cruiser, Toyota has received 20,000. According to Cars guide, around 90 percent of Japanese buyers choose ZX and GR Sport trims. These are the grades that take the longest time to deliver.
Toyota has stopped building the Land Cruiser in part of August and most September due to a lack of parts. This is impacting the availability of the model worldwide and not just in Japan. Australia, for example, is not getting demonstrator cars for dealers. Customers won’t be able to buy units until the end of the year.
This isn’t the first time Land Cruiser has received a lot of orders. Toyota reported in August that the demand was high enough to meet the first 12 months’ production. Anyone buying the new Land Cruiser would have to wait at most one year.
The Land Cruiser will not be available in the United States. However, America will receive the Lexus LX with more luxurious features. An automaker was reported to have delayed its launch until 2022 due to a chip shortage.
The Lexus LX will be offered in a 750h-grade. This will feature a hybrid-assisted twin turbo 3.5-liter V6 that produces 480 horsepower (358 Kilowatts) as well as 642 pound-feet (871 Newton meters) of torque. According to reports, the base model will be the LX 600 with a non-hybrid twin-turbo V6 of 409 horsepower (305 kW) & 479 lbft (650 Nm).
