Report: Old Chevy Minivan Owners Make Some of The Best Drivers

The data is not lying.

It is amazing how many data points can be gathered. Insurify is a website that allows you to compare auto insurance rates. Their database includes over 4 million applications for car insurance.

After going through all the data, they were able to identify which models of vehicle have the most safe drivers. They compared all applicants who had at least one driving offense, including accidents, speeding tickets, hit-and-runs, and other violations, to come up with a list that included the vehicles with the lowest number of infractions.

The Chevy Astro van is the winner of the award for car with the most drivers. This would have been a mistake, and not in a million of years. Based on the M-body platform, the Astro was a rear-wheel drive (and later all wheel-drive) minivan. The minivan was in production for a while from 1985 to 2005. However, it was eventually replaced with a GM minivan that was built on a unibody platform.

Which cars are the most desirable for drivers?

  1. Chevrolet Astro – 86.00% Percentage of drivers who have a clean driving record
  2. Chevrolet Uplander – Percentage of drivers with clean records: 85.23%
  3. Dodge Caravan – Percentage of drivers who have a clean driving record: 85.04%
  4. Ford Windstar – Percentage of drivers who have a clean driving record: 84.76%
  5. Nissan Quest – Percentage of drivers who have a clean driving record: 84.56%
  6. Cadillac Deville – Percentage of drivers who have a clean record: 83.74%
  7. Toyota Sienna: Percentage of drivers who have a clean driving record: 83.59%
  8. Chevrolet Corvette – Percentage of drivers with clean records: 83.19%
  9. Chevrolet Lumina – Percentage of drivers with clean records: 82.91%
  10. Lincoln Navigator – Percentage of drivers who have a clean driving record: 82.90%

Surprisingly, Astro’s replacement has been awarded the second-highest spot on the list for cars with the best drivers. The Chevy Uplander is a familiar name. If you forget about it, we would be very sorry. The Uplander was a terrible vehicle that was only made for a few short years, starting in 2005 when the Astro was cancelled. It was not only Chevrolet but also badge-engineered for almost every GM brand – Buick Saturn and Pontiac.

The top five spots are all occupied with minivans. The Dodge Caravan and Ford Windstar landed in spots #3, 4 and 5, respectively. The Toyota Sienna landed at #7. This suggests that minivans make up 60% of the list.

Insurify’s top 10 cars with the most drivers has two additional Chevys: the Corvette is at #8 while the Lumina mid-size sedan is at #9. Cadillac Deville is another GM product that ranks at #6. This gives the automaker five overall spots. Bravo, General.
