Two different vehicle configurations, one drag strip.
Most petrolheads know that the Mercedes AMG GT-R , Lamborghini Huracan and Mercedes AMG GT-R are supercars. However, what is their straight-line performance like? Track Day’s YouTubers stopped asking and placed the two vehicles on the cutting block.
It is important to remember that the Mercedes as well as the Lamborghini have very different performance. The Merc’s twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 produces 577 horsepower (430 kilowatts). The AMG features the same front-engine rear-drive layout as the Lamborghini. The performance numbers are impressive, but the AMG’s engine has a refined character. It produces a lot of power and makes very little noise
The Lamborghini, however, is a different gravy to the AMG. It boasts a naturally-aspirated V10 engine of 5.2-liters. This supercar is loud and revs up to the horizon. The Lambo’s V10 engine produces more than 600 horsepower (447 kW) and is shared with all four wheels. We are curious about how the Lambo will perform with all four wheels driven and a mid engine layout.
The video shows the vehicles going head-to-head from a rolling start at 40 mph (64 km/h) to around 140 mph (252 kph), at the end on the drag strip. Although you might think the Lambo would have the advantage due to its superior power and traction, the results were not that different in each of the three runs. It is interesting to see how similar these packages can be. Although we don’t know why a standing start was not possible, three runs were completed without much between competitors.
We would love to see the benefits that Lamborghini’s four wheel-drive system can bring from a standing start. Are you sure that the static start would produce the same results at the end? We’d love to hear your comments in the comments section.
