Rolls-Royce confirms Silent Shadow Electric Vehicle is in Development

Its arrival date, however, is unknown.

Rolls-Royce adopted electric vehicles in 2017, when it announced that it would stop developing hybrids and instead focus on EVs. Rumours have circulated since then about the plans of the company, with the automaker patenting Silent Shadow in 2020. Rolls CEO Torsten Müller-Oetvoes confirmed that the model’s development is under way. This is in reference to the Rolls Silver Shadow.

The company is refusing to give us details about the high-end luxury EV. According to Automotive News Europe, Mueller-Oetvoes confirmed this news in an interview. It would be a brand-new Rolls-Royce, you can rest assured. The model’s debut date was not given by him, as it is “still a secret.” However, earlier rumors had suggested that it would arrive later in the decade.

Mueller-Oetvoes noted that Rolls isn’t well-known for its loud engine sounds. However, the company’s quiet, elegant design makes it a good choice for luxury brands. Rumours suggest that Rolls has already tested its EV tech with an all-electric Phantom prototype. However, the production vehicle will be a separate model. BMW is rumored to share the technology in its iX hybrid electric crossover, and the i7.

The 2016 103EX Concept will be the inspiration for its design. Its sleek shape hides the sophisticated technology BWM will share. The concept featured a variety of technology including full autonomy. However, the interior did not have any controls. The Silent Shadow’s niche status and low production numbers could mean that it will take several years for the Silent Shadow to hit showrooms. However, government regulators are urging automakers to switch to electric vehicles. Rolls’ headquarters is in the UK. Last year, the UK announced that it would ban new gasoline and diesel cars after 2030.
