RWD Mazda6 with Inline-Six Engine Debuts in H1 2022

Mazda’s 2017 Vision Coupe Concept will be the inspiration.

It’s been hard to determine Mazda’s future plans over the past few years. This includes the Mazda6. Rumours that the sedan would be converted to rear-wheel drive were rumored back in 2017, but the car has not yet been produced. The rumors and speculations never stopped. A new report from (translated), says that the long-rumored model will finally make its debut in the first half 2022.

The new report is not surprising. It doesn’t differ from what we have already heard. Mazda’s RWD will be available in 2022, according to many rumors.

The new Mazda6 will have a completely new design when it arrives. According to the Spyder7 report, the car will be inspired by Mazda’s 2017 Vision Coupe Concept. This was a two-door with a long hood and a sleek greenhouse shape. The new grille design will be the future trend for the brand and the diffuser will be H-shaped. The Mazda6 will, however, offer five seats, which is a departure from the original concept.

Mazda will offer a 3.0-liter inline six diesel engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system as part of its powertrain lineup. A hybrid is expected for the gasoline-inline-six. Spyder7 reports that the Mazda6 will get an all-electric and a plug-in hybrid later in its lifecycle. The availability of the rear-wheel-drive Mazda6 is not yet known. This comes after the automaker stated earlier this year that both the CX-3 and sedan would be unavailable in the US. The new Mazda6 could be the model’s triumphant return.
