Rennes, France: Last C5 wagon made.
The Citroen C5 was revealed to the public in October 2007. It is one of the oldest vehicles available on the European market. The model has been in showrooms for almost 10 years and is now being phased out. The last one just came off the PSA assembly line in Rennes, France.
Although it’s an expected move, Citroen will no longer use its hydropneumatic suspension. In 2015, Citroen officially confirmed that it would end the technology and replace it with something new. This was due to high production costs and low customer demand.
The C5’s second generation was sold to over 635,000 customers in the ten years that it was on the marketplace. 435,000 were delivered in Europe. Citroen sold less than 10,000 copies of the model in Europe in 2016.
The last C5 to be manufactured in Europe was a station wagon. Production of the sedan ended last summer. Citroen will continue to build a updated version of the vehicle in China. This car features a new design, completely new interior and standard spring suspension. The People’s Republic still loves the classic sedan bodystyle. That’s why Citroen decided to not completely overhaul the C5.
Citroen is currently working on a new generation of its model for Europe. It is expected to be available next year. It will likely be a large hatchback, with hybrid powertrains. The brand’s Hydractive suspension is being replaced by a standard suspension that offers a comfortable setup.
