See How the Ferrari 296 GTB sounds in EV and V6 modes

This powertrain generates 818 horsepower.

The Ferrari296 GTB marquee’s latest supercar is a bridge between the brand’s present and its future. This supercar is a plug in hybrid. It combines a V6 engine and an electric motor. The supercar debuted in June. However, a new spy video lets us hear its sound. We get to hear the supercar’s combustion engine as well as its electric-only mode.

It’s not surprising that the sounds are so loud. As the partially camouflaged electric motor whines, it is clear that the sounds are not surprising Ferrari Cruises taken by the camera for the first time. It looks a lot like the SF90 Stradale, which shouldn’t be surprising. The V6 engine’s roar makes things a lot more exciting. It sounds just like a Ferrari exhaust note. The two systems combine to produce an incredible 818 horsepower (610 Kilowatts) as well as 740 pound feet (546 Newton-meters).

These numbers are possible thanks to Ferrari’s 164-hp (122-kW), rear e-motor, and the 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged next to it. This powertrain allows the supercar to reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds, and 124 mph (220 kph), in 7.3 seconds. Under the floor is a 7.45-kilowatt hour battery that provides an all-electric range of up to 16 miles (25km). The power is routed to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual clutch gearbox, which is already available in the SF90 Stradale and Roma models.

To really understand the sound of the 296 GTB, we would like to hear it under heavy acceleration. However, the low rumble from the V6 does sound promising. The F8 Tributo is being replaced by it. This previews what the company will be launching next year’s Purosangue SUV. It will likely feature a hybrid-assisted engine V6 similar to the 298 GTB so it should sound almost identical.
