The GT-R50 is a marvel despite being built on an outdated platform.
Italdesign ‘s Nissan GT-R50 is the latest and most limited Godzilla. Some might dismiss this Japanese sports coupe as a special edition to prolong its life.
Although this may be true, it is also possible that the GT-R50’s current R35 under the GT-R50 has been around for over a decade. The Italian-built GT-R50 also enjoys a significant power advantage over its Nissan GT-R competitors. Yes, even over the GTR Nismo.
The GT-R50’s distinctive design will be complemented by 710 horsepower from the twin-turbo, 3.8-liter V6 motor. The VR38DETT engine produced 110 more horsepower than the GT-R Nismo. The torque has also been increased to 575 lbft (780 Newton meters), which is a 94 Lb (128 Nm) improvement.
Nissan needed to strengthen the six-speed sequential dual clutch transmission in order to support the extra power. Bilstein also reworked the suspension to allow for continuous adjustable damping. The GT-R50’s 21-inch alloy wheels are covered in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, 255/35 R21 front and 285/30 R21 back.
These performance upgrades will be put to the test. In Belgium, we’ve seen the GT-R50 being tested before. It’s now time to watch it lap an Italian track. This short clip should show you the GT-R50 production lapping the Tazio nuvolari circuit.
The 50th anniversary Italdesign is celebrated by the Nissan GT-R50. Each customer sports car is limited to 50 units and each one comes with a sticker cost of EUR990,000. ($1.08 million). You can still get a few units during the reveal of the production version – if you have the funds.
