4.6 seconds is too long to not see the road.
Lexus installed the electrochromic cover to block out drivers’ outward views for 4.6 seconds. This is the average amount of time it takes to respond to a text message while behind the wheel. So that drivers could experience the dangers of not paying attention, the company set up a closed course with obstacles.
These are some shocking results. Lexus uses an obstacle to get its point across. Lexus’s stunt shows how failure to pay attention on the road can lead to tragedy for not only the driver, but for everyone around him.
Although 4.6 seconds may seem slow, 70 miles an hour would allow you to cover 472 feet, without having to look at the road. This number is comparable to the length of a football field that includes the end zones, which measures 360 feet.
The Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 suite comes standard on the NX. It is not meant to replace paying attention to the road. It features a pre-collision system that detects pedestrians, lane departure alert with steering assistance, road sign detection and adaptive cruise control. There is also blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross-traffic alert.
The 2022 model year will see a new generation of NX. There are already leaked images. It has the same front design, but the daytime running lamps are now integrated into the main lamps. The rear features full-width taillights. The interior has been extensively modified and includes large infotainment screens that have no touchpad controls. The powertrain options will include plug-in and hybrid hybrid options.
