Although the styling is appealing, Sony claims that it isn’t building Vision S.
Sony Vision S development continues, raising questions about what the company plans to do with the vehicle. The automaker stated that it does not intend to make the vehicle as of January.
The exterior has been modified slightly from the original design. The front section now has tiny lights below the main lamps. Because the vent at the front fender runs longer vertically, it is more prominent in styling. The rear charging door panel has a trapezoidal design with rounded corners.
These design changes made to the concept also appeared on Vision S in the company’s January development video. In that video, the camouflage wrap featuring the S-shaped motif was also shown.
The Vision S utilizes Sony’s Safety Cocoon technology. There are dozens of sensors that can monitor 360 degrees around the vehicle. This system allows Level 2 advanced driving assistance. It includes adaptive cruise control and self-parking.
Sony hopes to create a system that can support Level 4 assistance. The vehicle would be able to drive itself but the driver would still have control via a steering wheel.
The driver can be monitored by cameras inside. The software can monitor driver’s facial expressions and detect if they are becoming tired or losing their concentration. Software can read lips and interpret gestures.
Sony’s 360 Reality Audio technology is used to create the sound system. The sound system is customized to each person by the speakers embedded in the seats. It is theoretically possible to have an occupant play Gran Turismo and Vision S driving down the road.
