Holden’s secret project, which was in development for the past four years, will mark Holden’s last chance at local manufacturing. General Motors will close Aussie production plants by 2017, but the HSV can continue to live on. A limited edition GTS Maloo local-made GTS Maloo will be released in 150 units.
The supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine from the HSV GTS Sedan will provide power. It produces 580 bhp (433kW) and 545lb-ft (738Nm) of torque. The engine will be available with manual or automatic transmissions, as well as an upgraded differential and tail shaft. It is believed the GTS Maloo ute will get a retuned version of the regular model’s suspension rather than the HSV GTS Sedan’s magnetically-controlled suspension as a measure to maintain a minimum cargo-transporting capacity.
Although performance figures aren’t available at the moment, they should be better than the Maloo R8 that reached 168.66mph (271.44km/h) in 2006. This made it the fastest ute in existence.
The HSV GTS Maloo edition, which will be available before the end the year, should retail for around 85,000 AUD (78.800 USD).
