Jarod Shelby, it’s certainly a statement.
SSC Tuatara is the fastest production car in the world. It has clocked an average speed of 282.9 miles/hour (455.2 km/h) during two passes. This speed beat the Koenigsegg Agera RS 2017 record and was certainly faster than the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which ran at the Ehra-Lessien test site in 2019.
Although this is now official, there is still one problem. SSC failed to prove its original, controversial claim that it could reach speeds of 300 mph (483 km/h) in October 2020. Even though the Tuatara broke records in Florida, doubt remained about its ability to run Nevada.
Jarod Shelby knows exactly what’s going on.
The CEO of SSC stated that they are currently planning the next Tuatara top speed race, with the goal to eliminate any doubts about their machine.
Although the John Bohmer Proving Grounds route is 2.3 miles shorter than the Nevada portion, Shelby stated that the Tuatara can reach the Florida goal of 300+ mph and embraced it as a challenge.
Shelby stated to MC&T, “To me, I believe if we can do 2 passes at over 300 mph and we do it in 2.3 mile, it’s a statement.”
Now the question is where and when, as well as who will drive the car. We are now in the shadows because Shelby did not disclose any details in the interview. Dr. Caplin was certain that the Tuatara will do better than it did in January 2021. It’s not unreasonable to believe that he will be back in the cockpit.
SSC also wants to break the Nurburgring lap record using the Tuatara . We’ll be there to help you.
