Startech Land Rover Defender Gets Sporty Body and Massive Wheels

The Union Jack at the tailgate is bigger than the wheels.

German tuner Brabus has established a reputation for upgrading Mercedes-Benz models. However, Startech, its subsidiary, will gladly modify any other high-end vehicles. The Land Rover Defender’s cutesy “90” style is their latest project. It comes in a two-tone finish, with contrasting black roof and pillars.

The most noticeable change to the Defender standard is at the back. Startech The spare wheel has been removed to give the derriere a cleaner look. To emphasize the point, the tailgate is fully exposed and adorned with a huge Union Jack in monochromatic finish. It can also be painted in the colors the United Kingdom flag.

The Defender’s smallest model rides on 23-inch wheels that have a hub cover to resemble a centerlock wheel. The “Monostar E” black alloys have a dual 10-spoke design. They are wrapped in Yokohama 305/35R23 street tires on the front and rear axles. These massive rims might seem too big for an off-roader, but they would be great for the 110-wheelbase long-wheelbase or the larger three row 130.

Startech also tweaked the air suspension to make the Defender work with large wheels. The Defender is approximately 35 millimeters (nearly 1 1/4 inches) closer to road than stock model. To preserve the SUV’s ability to travel off the beaten track, the ground clearance has not been increased in off-road mode.

Aftermarket specialist, David Smith, spent time designing a subtle Defender 90 body kit. He says that the interior can be customized with aluminum footrests and pedals, as well as custom-made floor mats. Owners can choose from blue, black or red anodized sets bolts, and the aluminum door cards panels can be painted. There are a wide range of leather and Alcantara options for upholstery and quilting.
