It will be the first electric vehicle of its kind worldwide.
Subaru is set to debut the Solterra all electric crossover in early February. Although the model will be the brand’s first global electric vehicle, it will also share a lot with the new Toyota BZ4X. Both share the same underpinnings. However, Subaru adds its own flair to the rear and front fascias. The new Subaru model will be revealed in the US on November 10.
The details of the powertrain are still unknown, but Subaru will offer all-wheel drive. This suggests a two-motor configuration. The crossover’s range, battery capacities and output figures will be revealed alongside the reveal. However, recent details about the BZ4X may give a clue as to what we can expect.
The Toyota is available in two versions: a single-motor front-wheel drive configuration that produces 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts), or a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration that produces 215 horsepower (160 kW), and will be available in either a single-motor front-wheel-drive configuration. In 7.7 seconds, the dual-motor model can reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h). Each Toyota trim packs a 71.4-kilowatt hour battery. The single-motor model returns 280 miles (450 km) on the WLTP cycle. It wouldn’t surprise us if the Subaru gets the same numbers.
The Solterra’s styling will be something new. Although it won’t look significantly different than the Toyota, Subaru’s teaser photos suggest that the Solterra will have unique headlights or fog lights. Other exterior changes could be made to the front. The interior is different. Everything that has been released thus far points to the Solterra’s interior being identical to the BZ4X.
It’s not surprising that Subaru announced the Solterra’s debut day. Toyota released more information about its BZ4X earlier in today. The Solterra Subaru and BZ4X Toyota will both go on sale in the coming year. Both the Solterra and BZ4X will be available for purchase closer to their scheduled release dates. On November 10, at 7:30 pm, the company will hold a global unveiling online. You can watch it on their YouTube channel. ET. It will debut November 11, at 9:30 AM JST.
