The S-series WRX STI models of the past were very special. One might now be available in the U.S.
Subaru filed a trademark registration in the United States for the term S209 on December 12, 2018. This suggests that a performance-tuned WRTX STI could be coming to America. The model is likely to follow in the footsteps of the Japanese-exclusive special editions S206, S207 (gallery above), and HTML208 (pictured below).
Subaru’s application states that the company will use the S209 moniker to describe “automobiles, structural parts, and structural fittings therefor” as well as “floor mats” for automobiles. first found the filing.
Subie refers these S-series vehicles to as the ultimate versions its STI models. The S206 was a 2011 model with weight-balanced pistons and connecting rods. A revised ECU also increased the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine’s power to 316 horsepower (235 Kilowatts) and 318 pounds-feet (431 Newton meters) of torque. The handling was improved by Bilstein shocks and various chassis braces. The optional NBR Challenge package included a carbon-fiber roof and black BBS tires.
In 2015, the S207 and S208 versions were released. These improvements have been maintained by STI. STI was able to increase the engine’s power to 325 hp (242 kW), and 319 lbft (432 Nm) with the S208.
STI has previously produced models from the S-series in limited quantities, including 300 S206s and 450 S208s. The same would be true for the S209.
It Subaru really wants to make the S209 special, it should put the moniker on the South-Africa-exclusive WRX STI Diamond Edition and bring the machine to the U.S. This model is the most powerful factory-built, road-going STI yet only 30 are on the road. The output is now 349 horsepower (260 kW) thanks to parts like an ECU upgrade and performance exhaust.
