Jimny is getting larger and more spacious.
Jimny is the Internet’s favourite off-roader. A bigger version will be available with rear doors, and a longer wheelbase.
The cute 4×4 in Japan is a kei car. It measures 3,395 millimeters (133.7 in) long, 1,475mm (58.1in) wide and 1,725mm (67.9in) high. Although slightly larger than the Japanese version (Jimny Sierra), it still has decent rear legroom and rear doors. A practical variant is on the horizon, however.
Japanese website Autoc One quotes Suzuki officials as saying that the five-door Jimny will be available in 2022. The event was originally set to debut this October at Tokyo Motor Show. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the event to be cancelled . The official name for the vehicle is Jimny Long. It will be able to live up the suffix of 222021-tokyo-motor-show cancelled/” by extending the wheelbase by 300 mm (11.8 inches).
After the growth spurt, the family-friendly Jimny will become heavier. Suzuki will make up for this by adding a stronger engine to the Jimny. According to engineers, turbocharging will be added along with a mild hybrid setup. These modifications will cost Autoc_One 300,000 yen (nearly $3,000.) More expensive than the JDM-spec Jimny Sierra.
The rear doors will not be modified. The only major change will be a redesign of the front grille, which will have a single horizontal slot replacing the five-slot vertical arrangement. Suzuki is apparently working on a more expensive version of the Jimny Long to look like a baby Mercedes G-Class. However, this information should be taken with a grain of salt. tuners already have this conversion.
Next year, the Jimny Long will be seen when Suzuki will give the three-model current a mid-cycle facelift. Both models will be seen in Japan first before moving to international markets. It is possible that the engine will be turbocharged or electrified. This will allow the company to once again sell the SUV in a passenger configuration. It is currently only available on the Old Continent in a two-seater, commercial model.
