Also, a deep dive into the CT5V Blackwing’s status as an icon.
It is well-known that the Tesla Model S Plaid is fast, but how fast is it in straight-line races? To show, Hagerty‘s Jason Cammisa set up a matchup – a Model S Plaid and a BMW M5 CS.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the result was unexpected. However, Hagerty was capable of establishing the gap between the cars in this video. The Model S Plaid completed the quarter-mile in 9.33 seconds, at a speed of 152 miles an hour (245 km per hour).
The BMW M5 CS covered the same distance in 10.6 seconds and crossed the quarter-mile mark at 130 mph (209km/h). The Cadillac CT5V Blackwing covered the same distance in a second at 125 mph (201km/h).
These differences may not seem significant, but the video showed that the M5 CS was six buses ahead of the Tesla. The CT5-V Blackwing was also the most powerful Cadillac ever made, and it was a full football field behind the Model S Plaid.
The drag race was just one way to show how far the Model S Plaid was compared to the other two internal combustion engine-powered sports sedans. Cammisa and his crew also set lap times at Willow Springs. The Tesla beat the gas-guzzlers by an impressive figure.
Cammisa explained that even though the CT5V placed last in drag racing (and in middle of lap time comparison), the CT5V still has something the fastest Tesla doesn’t.
