Texas snow-covered roads don’t suit pedestrians.
Texas is under the effects of a historic winter storm. This has left the region paralyzed and millions of people shivering in darkness. According to a tweet by the Texas Department of Transportation, some Texas residents have been forced to lose their senses due to the conditions.
Three individuals are seen marching in the outer lanes of Interstate 35 in Austin while traffic passes to their left. It’s quite a scary sight, as there is a lot of snow on the roads with very few clear lanes or tracks. Even an experienced winter driver would find the conditions challenging, provided that he or she has adequate tires and a vehicle capable of handling heavy snow. However, pedestrians can make the situation more dangerous and difficult for everyone involved. It goes without saying that roads in Texas are not the best option for pedestrians traveling on foot.
Texas’ government is warning residents not to drive due to heavy snows. This Michigan driver knows how to get you out of trouble.
- Stay off roads if your tires are deteriorated. Do not even attempt to leave the house.
- Slow down. Slower than what you think is necessary.
- Keep a large gap between the car in front and you.
- Use light pressure and brake very quickly. Do not panic if you feel the ABS pulse through your pedal.
- Use gentle steering inputs. To change the direction of your car if it starts to understeer (go straight even though the wheel is turned), use very, very gentle brake pressure.
- You can steer in the direction of slipping if you feel like it.
- Deep snow snow can pull a vehicle out of control, so be careful about traversing deeper sections or snow piles in the middle of a lane.
- You can’t stop or turn with a four-wheel drive/all wheel drive.
- In case of an emergency, ensure that your vehicle is stocked with water, food, and blankets.
According to the state of Texas, motorists who become stranded should call 1-800-525-5555 for roadside assistance. Texas is still in a state emergency. Weather reports predict more snow and ice over the next few days.
