The 2022 Cadillac CT5V Blackwing Is The Most Powerful Cadillac EVER

This supercharged V8 generates 668 horsepower.

Although the Cadillac CT5V is a great car, it’s not the CTS–V successor we had hoped for. The CTS-V’s successor is much faster than the CTS-V, which has a mere 360 horsepower (or 477 kW). It takes just 4.8 seconds to reach 60, compared to the CTS-V’s less than four seconds. The brand today unveils a Cadillac CT5V Blackwing, which feels like a true follow-up to its CTS.

Since yesterday, the company has teased the CT5-V Blackwing. It was also present at the Rolex 24 At Daytona. This is the first time that we see the more powerful CT5-V in action, with real performance stats. The CT5-V Blackwing uses the supercharged, 6.2-liter V8 of the CTS-V. However, it has significant upgrades. It pumps out absurdly 668 horses (498kW) and 659 pounds-feet (893newton-meters). It can reach 60 in 3.7 seconds, and then accelerate to around 200 miles an hour (322 km per hour).

The CT5-V Blackwing has the same supercharged V8 engine as its predecessor but there are many modifications. The CT5 features a supercharger with 1.7 liters (to be precise), new pulleys and aluminum cylinder heads. It also has titanium intake valves. This gives it 46 percent more airflow. A manual transmission is available for those who are more serious about their pursuits. The CT5-V Blackwing comes standard with a Tremec six speed manual. It also includes features such as rev-matching and no-lift shift. Cadillac claims that the optional 10-speed automatic gearbox shifts faster than dual-clutch transmissions. The autobox is able to sprint to 60 in 3.7 seconds, while the manual takes a little longer.

The CT5-V Blackwing’s fourth generation Magnetic Ride Control system is hidden beneath. The latest version of the CT5-V Blackwing is an upgrade to the front and rear suspension systems. This setup is a favorite. This improves both track handling as well as on-road comfort. In both models, power travels exclusively to the rear wheels.

The CT5V Blackwing comes with standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, which are 275/35R19 at the front and 305/30R19 at the rear. The super-sticky rubber wraps around the 19-inch Blackwing-exclusive forged wheels. These wheels conceal a set carbon-ceramic brake pads, which help to shed 53 pounds (24 kg) more than standard steel brakes.

The majority of the Blackwing model’s changes are mechanical. The CT5-V gets a slightly modified front bumper, with more air intakes and black accents. There are also a few carbon-fiber aero pieces that provide additional downforce and a blacked out grille. The Blackwing model’s rear ends also have matching carbon fiber accents such as a spoiler and diffuser. The CT5-V Blackwing interior gets a similar makeover. It features carbon fiber accents on its center console, steering wheel and door panels, as well as a 3D-printed shifter that is at the driver’s fingertips.

The CT5-V Blackwing has a 12.0-inch digital cluster for its instrument cluster, which is similar to the C8 Corvette. This large display provides basic information such as tire pressure, G forces and boost. It also displays specific information for each of the three driving modes: Tour, Sport, or Track. The display also features a configurable launch control setting and a Performance Traction Management system.

The base Cadillac CT5V Blackwing will offer all this performance for $84,990 before any options. According to reports, Super Cruise could be seen on the CT5V Blackwing. Cadillac has not confirmed this. We also know that the CT5V will launch in two exclusive trims, Blaze Orange Metallic or Electric Blue. Pre-orders for a CT5V Blackwing are available starting at $1,000.
