It’s a concept at the moment.
The concept car was developed by four companies from the United Kingdom. See the gallery below. The prototype is called the Aura, and it’s road-legal and fully operational. It was designed to show what the future looks like for driver’s cars. It is made with sustainable materials at its core, and has a very minimalistic design language.
The Aura was unveiled publicly at the CENEX–LCV show at Millbrook Proving Ground. It features a “pure and simple, iconic, low-drag efficient design” that has been developed using the most recent Computational Fluid Dynamics technologies (CFD). Although the drag coefficient of the electric car is unknown, it is estimated that it can travel 400 miles on a single charge of two 44-kWh batteries. The battery pack is placed in front of the car, with the other underneath it for optimal weight distribution.
The Aura is a two-seater roadster that has no roof. It looks a lot like the Volkswagen XL1 open-top model from the front. However, the rear end has a more prominent appearance. The rear wheels are similar to the German diesel plug in hybrid. They are covered with wheel curtains to optimize the aero coefficient. All four corners are covered by large, low rolling resistance tires and wheels with large diameters.
According to the creators, the main purpose of the vehicle’s infotainment is to demonstrate that EV adoption can be more easily than people think. The cabin’s star attraction is the self-leveling driver display at the center of your steering wheel. Special measures have been taken to minimize driver distraction. Range anxiety can be alleviated by a real-world map that shows the locations of available charging points.
The Aura is not currently being mass produced. To get more views from EV enthusiasts, the four companies behind this project will exhibit it at various events in the UK.
