Classic Recreations has outdone itself with the new lightweight ‘Stang.
It is not difficult to imagine a Mustang starting at $298,000. This is not your average pony car. It looks like it has traveled back to the 1960s and was able to ride the modern technology. Classic Recreation’s first build, the 1967 Shelby GT500CR Mustang was announced last May.
The pony car combines the classic ‘Stang look and modern manufacturing techniques. It weighs in at 600 pounds (272 kg) less than Classic Recreation’s Shelby GT500CR. The Carbon Edition was created in collaboration with SpeedKore. It began with a 1967 steel GT500CR. This was then scanned, designed and engineered in CCAD, before being permanently enshrined into plugs.
Thanks to perfectly aligned panels, and flawless bodywork, the end result is an exact-match replica. The exposed carbon fiber weave is completed with candy red stripes on the autoclave-cured panels. Other colors are also available upon request. It is mounted on Forgeline 18-inch three-piece wheels that are wrapped in BFGoodrich Rival, measuring 275/35/18 front & 335/30/18 back.
Six-piston Wilwood brakes with 14-inch rotors in the front and four-piston brakes with 13-inch rear rotors in the rear provide stopping power. Both axles have slotted, cross-drilled and vented rotors. An adjustable rear-proportioning valve is also installed to balance pressure between front and rear brakes.
Classic Recreations’ 1967 Shelby GT500CR Mustang features a Ford 5.2-liter Coyote engine (Gen 3). It is coupled with a Whipple supercharger to produce a huge output of 800 horsepower and 600 pound feet (813 Newton-meters). Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters channels all that American muscle to the roads.
We don’t have images of the interior, but we know that there is an Alcantara headliner as well as leather upholstery. Shelby custom red gauges were installed. This includes a new speedometer, which can go all the way up 200 mph to show the Mustang’s increased capabilities. These changes were completed by the Kicker audio system, and Kenwood infotainment.
Classic Recreations offers a GT500CR base model starting at $265,000, with full carbon fiber body. The Carbon Edition, which is limited in number, costs more because of the additional custom bits that make it more eye-catching.
