Nissan has just given the SUV a midcycle refresh in 2021.
Nissan is updating its lineup quickly to reverse falling sales. The company revealed earlier this year that it would unveil 12 new models in the next 18 months. This includes the Armada SUV. The full-size SUV is still in its second generation and received a mid-cycle refresh to prepare it for the 2021 model-year. The update did not include any significant changes to the gearbox. However, that could change.
A new report by Motor Trend According to Nissan, the automaker missed the development window to put the Titan-sourced nine speed gearbox in the Armada. According to Brent Hagan, a Nissan product planner, the additional two gears may make their way into an Armada someday down the line. The question is when. The majority of redesigns require a complete change of the gearbox. However, the Armada has been updated to allow for this type of modification. Titan The 5.6-liter V8 produces 400 horsepower (291 Kilowatts) as well as 413 pound-feet (534 Newton–Meters) of torque. The Titan also has nine gears.
The Armada’s design was also updated. Nissan designers widened the V-shaped grille and standard LED headlights. They also added metallic trim and made tweaks to the bumper and rear taillights. The 8.0-inch unit is reapplied inside by a 12.3 inch infotainment screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay, updated maps and software via WiFi are some of the features. The new center console is also able to be opened from both the front and back.
The 2021 Armada’s seven-speed gearbox is very capable. It can tow 8,500 pounds, unchanged from the 2020 model. An integrated brake controller was added, as well as trailer sway control. The Armada will have two more forward gears to increase its fuel economy. However, it won’t be significant in the real world. We don’t know when it could happen but we believe the switch will be made for a third-generation Armada.
