Don’t take the punishment if you don’t feel capable of handling the ride.
Police vehicles see a lot more abuse than normal vehicles. It’s no surprise that almost every police vehicle has an upgrade. Volkswagen hopes to bring something new to European agencies by offering a modified Transporter. We suspect Tricked Up isn’t the term they would use to describe the ride.

This van is specifically called a prisoner transport vehicle by VW. The pictures below show that it’s not a safe ride for criminals. VW claims that the rear of this van has a full-width mobile jail cell, which VW claims ensures “safe transportation for occupants.” We suspect Safe The van’s officers are the ones who were referring to because the cell appeared to lack any safety restraints or padded seats. Although crooks don’t deserve a gentle ride, at least the U.S. police cruisers have curved back seats that can be adjusted to fit someone. We have never been in the back seat of a police cruiser. We’ve seen these things at special drive events. That’s it.
The accommodations outside of the cell for officers are not very inviting. Two thin, rear-facing, narrow seats provide enough space for two people to monitor the cell. However, these seats are at most fabric and have padding. The seats in front of the driver and passenger will be a little more accessible.
The interior has also been updated. The VW Transporter is also given plenty of visual punch to make it clear that this is a police car. If anyone happens to miss the markings, the “blue light” conversion will be done with LED lights and a 100-watt siren. VW’s Transporter vans are sent to Safeguard SVP, Essex, who handles the entire police conversion.
The VW Transporter cell van was unveiled last week at NAPFM Emergency Fleet Exhibition in the U.K. It is now part of a demonstration fleet that European police agencies can evaluate.
