At least, for the moment.
Volkswagen has a large selection of high-riding vehicles to cater for the Chinese market. However, the German manufacturer has expanded its crossover lineup with the debut of the Tiguan X. This coupe-SUV version is positioned as a sportier, more dynamic vehicle than its brother, but it’s also more practical than the Tayron X.
The new Tiguan X is expected to be sold only in the People’s Republic. Volkswagen has not spoken out about the possibility of bringing the model to America or exporting it to Europe, where it will compete with the Renault Arkana.
You won’t see any changes compared to the standard, facelifted Tiguan if you only look at the front. It’s quite different from the C-pillar at the back, which has a steep roofline and a large hatch. The Tiguan X measures 187,79 in (4,77 meters), which is more than the Tiguan LWB. The model actually is based on the Tiguan Allspace, which easily explains its dimensions.
You’ll find four-cylinder TSI options that produce 186 horsepower (137 kilowatts), and 220 hp (1,4 kW). Standard equipment includes a seven-speed dual clutch DSG automatic gearbox and a seven speed dual-clutch DSG manual gearbox. There is no three-pedal configuration. We have not yet released performance numbers, but expect the Tiguan X will have comparable capabilities to the Tiguan Allspace in China. This means a 0-62 mile per hour acceleration time of approximately 10 seconds and 0-100 km per hour acceleration time.
