There is still hope for the Porsche Panamera in The Electric Era

According to the company boss, a third-generation model might be offered alongside the Taycan.

Since Porsche’s September 2019 introduction of the Taycan, many have wondered if there is any future for the Panamera from Zuffenhausen. A Cross Turismo sedan was recently created. The Sport Turismo wagon is likely to follow, further increasing the overlap in size with the combustion-engined vehicle. What does this mean for the Panamera then? It turns out that a third generation is possible.

The Panamera could be around for a while, even though Porsche plans to electrify 80 percent of its annual sales by the end the decade. Oliver Blume, the company boss, told Autocar that there is a good chance that the ICE-powered model could be renewed. “I think it can work, because they’re playing in different segments. The Panamera is a step above the Taycan.

According to the head honcho, Porsche must be careful not to cannibalize sales by making sure that models are distinctive. The potential third-gen Panamera would be more expensive and larger than the Taycan currently on sale.

If it is decided to get rid of the old combustion engine, the Panamera E-V will most likely ride on PPE platform that debuts in 2022 along with the next Macan or the Audi Q6 E-Tron. This new architecture, which includes rear-wheel steering, air suspension and torque vectoring, will be an improvement on the VW Group’s MEB.

Porsche will electrify its next Panamera with an existing gasoline engine. This means that the company will continue to use a traditional gasoline engine in the future Panamera. The company didn’t just say that 80 percent of its sales would be made up of “electrified” models by 2030. It also considered hybrids, which could include the next-generation Panamera or even a substitute for today’s 992-gen 911 sportscar.

Porsche is yet to decide whether the successor to the 718 lineup with ICEs will continue or transition to electric power. However, we know that the “baby 911”, the Porsche Cayenne-electric-under-consideration%22%7D, will see a new generation. Although an all-electric Cayenne has been in consideration for a few years, we don’t anticipate seeing it anytime soon.
