This Geo Metro Convertible Is the Headliner at An RM Sotheby’s Auction

Bidding closes in 24 hours so get there quickly!

RM Sotheby’s Handle With Fun ends tomorrow. It is full of great automotive oddities though the headliner may not be what you might expect. It’s a 1992 Geo Convertible in excellent condition. The auction will close in less than 24 hours. It currently has a bid of $2,600 with an asking price $2,700. There is no reserve.

According to the auction house, the California single-owner car comes with a clean Carfax and less than 39,500 Miles (63,569 Kilometers) on the odometer. This car has the potential to win the “Concours d’Lemons Best In Show” award in the future. The painting also states that it’s “the perfect vehicle to impress your first date.” You don’t need to call your date if they aren’t impressed. This is enough evidence to show that it was not going anywhere.

Because of its minimalist styling and features, the Geo is easy to drive. It was a car in its truest sense, the result of a partnership between General Motors and Suzuki in late 1980s. From 1989 to 2001, the Metro was built by the two of them. It was among the most affordable new cars at the time. Under the Geo badge is a Suzuki Cultus. It looks great with bright blue exterior paint and a gray-on grey interior. Although the seats are a little worn, there aren’t any visible tears.

The car will be 30 years old in a few months. You’ll need to get the cassette tapes ready if you want to hear some music, but this convertible is a blast to drive. It’s not fast, but it is a result of an exceptional time in automotive history. It is not a collector’s car and likely will never be. But if we focus on the best cars in a particular generation, we may forget what the mass drove.
