Although it may not be hot, you get the idea.
A topper is a bed cover that can be added to a pickup truck. This enclosed space allows for things to be kept dry and secure in the back until you need to transport something such as a quad bike, or a refrigerator that won’t fit under the cap. Sometimes you only need a cap on rare occasions, but don’t have enough space to store it when not being used.
You probably haven’t thought of covering your bed with more air. California-based Flated came up with the Air-Topper, an interesting product. It’s a roll up topper that can be stored in a small bag when not being used. It can be pumped up to make a rigid pickup cap. This cap attaches to most beds using a series J-hook straps. We are talking about something very rigid. We are talking about rigidity. There are mounting points for cargo to be secured to the roof. In the video at the end of the article, we are told a rumor that the Air-Topper could have reached speeds of 110 mph.
Flated’s website states that the Air-Topper is made from drop-stitch fabric and has PVC layers on the sidewalls. The vinyl windows and screens can be removed and attached using zippers or velcro to make an open-air shelter. The inside has mesh storage pockets. When it’s time for you to take the top down, it can be stored in a bag with shoulder straps. It weighs in at just 35 pounds and can be carried on your back if necessary. A fiberglass topper won’t allow you to do this.

There are many sizes available for the Air-Topper to fit different pickups. We have to admit that we love the ease of this cap. It can be filled up to carry sleeping bags and used for weekend camping trips, but there is a price. Prices vary by size and can range from $1899 to $1999, which is comparable to standard-grade fiberglass toppers. These toppers cannot be folded up and stored in the truck’s cab when not in use.
Flated’s website states that preorders are now open and shipments will begin in December 3.
