It is a rare evergreen. Literally.
The M Coupe with the S52 engine, which only 2,180 were made, is one of the most rare BMWs ever produced. We can probably assume that there were at least 100 of these units destroyed. This leaves us with less than 2000 M Coupes S52. We’d love to hear about one that is up for sale.
This particular example is from 1998, which means that it’s an older build. It’s also one of only 89 cars in the world finished in Evergreen exterior colors, 48 of which were reserved for European markets. It is exactly a Euro-spec car, meaning that it is one of only 48 ever produced.
This car is a rare one and is currently being offered for sale by RM Sotheby’s. The car was first registered in road use on October 29, 1998. It was then sold to a customer in Belluno, Northern Italy. It was first sold to its third owner in 2006, after which it changed hands again. It is currently owned by its fifth owner.
“Well-preserved” example that has been repainted in the original Evergreen shade.
The 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine is smooth and powerful, producing 316 horsepower (236 Kilowatts) as well as 260 pound-feet (351 Newton-meters). Burkhard Goschel designed the M Coupe, a harder-core version of Z3 Roadster. It had more power, stiffer suspension and significantly higher torsional, structural, and rigidity. Although not an immediate success, the performance coupe was one of the most desired Bimmers of that time.
