This Subaru was purchased by someone for over $300,000.

Although the Subaru Impreza may not be the most desirable three-box vehicle currently on the market, adding four letters and two numbers to its name makes it even more valuable in the eyes of car enthusiasts. One example sold at the Bring A Trailer auction for $312,555.

Meet the 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi. It is one of only 400 units built in a short time span to celebrate the automaker’s 40th anniversary. This also marks the third consecutive manufacturer’s title for the Subaru Impreza. FIA World Rally Championship


The particular unit sold had 25,000 miles (40,000 km) on the odometer. It is the 156th of 400 units made for Japan. The seller imported it to the USA in July 2020 under the “show or show” exemption.

The Impreza 22B STi that you see here is finished in World Rally Blue, and has a black-and-blue two-tone interior. Based on the photos, the 17-inch BBS alloy wheels in gold look like new, despite the miles. The timing belt and water pump have been replaced recently. A replacement cat-back exhaust has been installed.

Although three hundred grand might seem excessive for a Subaru, Subie enthusiasts would be able to appreciate the significance of this rally-bred homologation. This particular Subaru is among the most expensive ever sold, with a $312,555 hammer.

The barely driven Impreza 22B STi we previously saw was another candidate for our list of expensive Subarus. It was listed for $370,000. We don’t know the price, but it’s certain that the buyer was happy.
