Fun for all are top speed runs
You can still have fun with the top-speed car even if you only have the base model. It’s thrilling to see supercars reach speeds of over 200 mph, but what about slower cars? Even though they are slower than supercars, slow cars can reach top speeds and it is something that we all can relate to. This BMW 1-series race on the Autobahn is a must-see.
This BMW F40 is not your typical high-speed cruiser. The 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine is found in many Mini products as well as lower trim BMWs. The tiny turbocharged engine generates a respectable 140 horsepower (104 Kilowatts), and 162 lbft (200-newton metres) of torque.
The hatchback, which weighs in at 2843lb (1290kg), can accelerate from 0-60 in 8.0 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 132mph (213 km/h). This BMW 1-series base model can easily take any car to 100 mph. The BMW 118i was able to reach its maximum speed even in less than ideal conditions, with just two passengers.
It was all looking great until the 1-series drew up a Porsche Cayenne. The Porsche Cayenne simply moved away from the driver, despite him trying to accelerate in the left lane. This reminded us how fast performance cars can be compared to more pedestrian models.
There is no winner or loser on the Autobahn. Anyone who legally hits their car’s top speed is a winner. It’s exciting to see a car that you can afford reach maximum speed. We’ve seen supercars at their highest speeds.
