You can create the Terrastorm or Praetorian overlanding of your dreams.
Are you looking for an off-roading platform to build an overlanding vehicle? Are you looking for an unstoppable off-roading platform on which to build an epic overlanding RV? You may be familiar with Torsus, its two offerings: the huge MAN-based Preetorian van and the VW-based Terrastorm van. You can now specify the model you desire using the new online configurator.
This may be the first configurator that can be used to configure hardcore, overland-capable machines. These builds often have custom features that are difficult to categorize. We give credit to Torsus. There are many features to choose between, whether you’re looking for the EUR162,000 ($187,000.600) Praetorian, or the EUR55.665 ($64,000.500) Terrastorm. This is for both the exterior and mechanical parts. The interior options are mainly limited to trim and seats, but there is plenty of customization available after the sale.
The configurator was taken for a test drive. We were building the Praetorian we had always wanted. The “Personal Freedom” model was actually our first choice. It eliminates the need for seats and leaves a large area behind the cockpit that can be used as a storage space. This makes it easy to create an RV capable of overlanding. It’s easy to see that most of the equipment is standard. This includes the 290-horsepower (216 kW) MAN diesel with 848 pound feet (1,150 Newton-meters of torque).
We then added rear air suspension which adds disc brakes around. We chose the upgraded parking brake which locks the front wheels with their rear. Additionally, we added the hill climb brake. We increased the fording depth from 680 millimeters to 27 inches because we don’t want to use this to patrol parking lots at shopping malls.
We added an upgrade alternator to the battery, a central tire inflation system, and every possible bumper guard to make it more powerful. The Praetorian has a large roof rack, and we finished our shopping spree with a beautiful shade of blue, because we are tired of seeing off-roading motorhomes in varying shades of brown, white, or black.
After all was said and done, the Praetorian had nearly EUR40,000 worth options to land at EUR201.185. This is equivalent to $232,800 in US currency at current conversion rates. However, it will be difficult to get one in the States as Torsus, a Czechia-based company, currently doesn’t have any US agents. It’s okay to dream.
