This is a bold statement.
Over 109,000 Toyota Tundra units sold in 2020, a 21% drop from the previous year. This sales performance isn’t great considering it was just above the Nissan Titan at bottom of US truck sale.
It’s clear that the Toyota Tundra was not a popular truck in America, due to its age. But don’t worry, the next-generation Tundra will be arriving soon. Toyota dealers were already raving about it before its arrival.
Robby Findlay, Chairman of the Toyota National Dealer Advisory Council, stated that the new Tundra was the most exciting vehicle they have seen in the past five-plus decades.
Findlay said that the new model is a long-awaited and that the full-size truck market in America has great potential. Notable is the fact that the three most popular vehicles in the US last ye were all full-size trucks. This is a sign of America’s large truck market.
“And they are telling us that we will be the best in class. We’re going be a world-beater and it’s going will be great to go toe to toe with domestic trucks,” Findlay said.
What do we know so far about the Tundra? Earlier, unconfirmed reports suggested that the Tundra would debut in December 2021 to mark the 2022 model-year. It will be built on the TNGA F platform and powered with a twin-turbo V6 motor.
However, to be a “world-beater”, is quite a claim. Ford just unveiled a new F-150 and its Raptor equivalent, while Ram and Chevy have not stopped updating their competitors.
While we don’t expect the Tundra to be the best-selling vehicle in the world when it arrives, we do hope for an increase in sales if Toyota plays its cards well.
