The newest member of the GR family will be the Corolla in the US.
The latest Toyota GR Corolla teaser builds anticipation for the hot hatch’s debut by showing it as the next member in the GR family of cars that will be coming to the United States. This video shows two views of the model. A brief look is at the 3-minute-and-30-second point, and the slightly longer one starts at 3:55.
These peeks show the rear and front of a camouflaged GR Corolla. This last one shows how the taillights are illuminated.
This video focuses mainly on the new GR86. A couple of GR team members, along with two Toyota executives, are watching a focus group react and discuss different pitches for a GR86 ad. According to some research, the location for the video is the mostly closed Charlestowne Mall (Illinois).
The GR people want to emphasize the vehicle’s performance as well as its manual gearbox. Toyota’s people try to make the ad more practical, such as how the backup camera makes parking simpler.
The audience can see both the new GR86 and the other model. The highlight for anyone excited about the new model is watching it glide around an abandoned mall in a pair Supras. You can also jump into a pile made of cardboard boxes.
Toyota teasers of the GR Corolla have shown some details. The G16E–GTS 1.6-liter turbocharged, three-cylinder engine makes 268 horsepower (200 kilowatts), and it uses the GR Four all wheel-drive system. Similar setup can be found in the GR Yaris.
All indications point towards a manual transmission being offered in GR Corolla. A rumor has it that Toyota might offer an automatic transmission.
Recently, the company displayed a GR Yaris equipped with an eight-speed auto for the Gazoo Racing Challenge in Japan. Also, the model had minor modifications to its nose to direct air to an oil cooler for the gearbox.
The transmission is still under development. Shigeru Hayakawa, Toyota Vice Chairman, reports that the prototype has been broken.
