It will be faster than the Le Mans racecar.
Toyota wants to increase its appeal to sports car lovers with the GR Yaris, GR Supra and GR Yaris. But there is so much more in the future. A month ago, the new GR 86 was revealed. Now, there are more reports about a GR Corolla as well as a Hilux pickup truck with a performance version. A fully-fledged hypercar will be at the top of Gazoo Racing’s food chain.
Toyota will continue to issue a license plate for the GR Super Sport, even though a road-going version of the Le Mans Hypercar racer has been removed by the LMH regulations. It will likely use a twin-turbo V6 2.4 liter hybrid system adapted form the motorsport division’s former race car, TS050 Hybrid.
According to the original LMH regulations, it should have at least 986 horsepower. This is the same power output that was announced for the concept car. Autocar suggests that the final version could pack more punch thanks to a tri-motor hybrid configuration. It will still be faster than the race car version, as the track version will have 670 horsepower from a hybrid 3.0-liter engine. This is according to the LMH class regulations.
Although the jury is still out about the asking price and the number of units made, the regulations have changed so that Toyota does not need to produce a minimum 20 units. Given the amount of money, effort, and time invested in this project, logic suggests that the production run will be larger to make a strong business case for GR Super Sport / GR 010.
Toyota has announced that it will launch a road version its Le Mans Hypercar racer. However, other automakers who have committed to participating in the LMH class are yet to make a road-approved vehicle. This includes Audi, Porsche, Audi and Ferrari.
