Japanese magazine Best Car has some juicy information about the range-topping Toyota GT86.

Toyota has plans to make some modifications to the GT86. We know this because prototypes have been spotted “Ring testing” a few times. According to a recent report, the model will get a new version that replaces the rear-wheel drive system with an AWD.

The GT86 will also get a four-cylinder 2.5 liter turbocharged gasoline engine made by Subaru. It’s most likely the same engine that was used in the 2015 WRX STI, which produces 305 bhp (227 kW), and 290 lbft (393Nm) of torque. The engine can produce up to 300 horsepower (224 kW) in the GT86. It will be sent to both axles via an eight-speed manual gearbox.

According to spy photos that we posted a few months back, Toyota also plans lightweight body parts made of carbon fiber and a large fixed rear wing. Tetsuya Taka, the chief engineer of Toyota, has already revealed that the GT86 will feature new intake and exhaust systems. These were developed in collaboration between Gazoo Racing.

Toyota may decide to make the GT86 facelifted available for purchase in 2015.
