Two Dodge Challenger Hellcats Outrun Police Charger At Drag Strip

You can have a lot of fun without having to pay the legal fees

There are many things that you shouldn’t do with your car. Racing the police is definitely one of them. There is one situation where racing the police is allowed and encouraged. Two Dodge Challengers took advantage of that opportunity. A new video on the Wheels YouTube channel shows a Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye along with a Challenger Hellcat at a local drag track.

The Challenger is a huge disadvantage. Its quarter-mile times are so poor that it may have the 3.6-liter V6 underneath. This should produce 292 horsepower (217 horses). Even with the optional Hemi V8, outputs would be significantly lower than those of the Hellcats. Dodge’s supercharged, 6.2-liter V8 produces 797 horsepower (594kW) in the Redeye. The Hellcat regular, which has the same engine, produces 707 horsepower (527 kW). The police car is not even a possibility.

Although the Redeye is leading the race, the police car takes the lead at the start. However, the Challenger manages to keep the Charger in its rearview, and completes the quarter-mile in 12.27 secs at 119.38 mph (192.12 km/h). It took 16.53 seconds and was able to complete the quarter-mile at 86.71mph (139.55 km/h). The Hellcat finished the quarter-mile race at 106.55 mph (171.48 km/h). However, the cop car took 17.09 seconds to finish it at 83.99mph (135.17 km/h).

Drag racers rarely have the opportunity to race the law in a controlled and safe environment. It was nice to see police officers having fun with these events. One racing officer even went so far as hitting the police lights on the track.
