Bugatti was challenged by the customer to create this intricate pattern.
A Bugatti customer is someone who has a sense for humor and has a lot of money. The customer ordered a custom DIVO with a customized paint scheme that gives the exterior the appearance of a ladybug.
The body is covered in around 1,600 diamonds. This Divo pattern uses diamond shapes, which is not the case with a ladybug. Customer Special Red is the main color, while Graphite provides contrast for the outlines.
Bugatti paints the body in red, then transfers a film onto the exterior to create this effect. Before applying graphite paint, the company ensures that the diamonds are placed in the correct places. Finally, each diamond must be removed carefully to expose the crimson hue underneath.
This process was tested several times by the company before it was applied to the customer’s vehicle. “Every maneuver in this tedious task had to be perfected, so we decided to perform another rehearsal before the final stage,” Dirk Hinze of Bugatti’s expert on customization and surfaces said.
Bugatti produced just 40 Divos at a base cost of 5 million euros, before any options. Each one is unique. The company doesn’t say how much the customer will have to pay for such a complex paint scheme.
