It would be the fastest production car in the world if it was possible.
The Tesla Model S is fast, even in Ludicrous mode. The Tesla upgraded Model S Plaid can hit 60 mph in just two seconds. These claims have yet to be proven since Plaid models have not yet been delivered to customers. However, at least one source claims to know the performance of the quarter-mile. The Model S Plaid, if true, will be the fastest production car in the world.
The source is Drive Tesla Canada. However, before we proceed, we must inform you that we have not been able to verify any claims in the report. This is notable because Drive Tesla Canada refers to an anonymous source. There’s a lot of she-said-he-said going on here. We know that the Model S Plaid will have over 1,000 horsepower and drive all four wheels. This claim is not as far-reaching, however, as Elon Musk’s Roadster is currently orbiting the sun between Earth, Mars, and the sun.
What exactly is the claim? According to the report, A Model S Plaid completed a quarter-mile run in 9.23 seconds at Autoclub Famoso Racingway in Bakersfield. Although the speed was 152.16 miles per hour, little else is known about the car or the run. This was done on street tires, or race rubber. The car was a production standard model, with an interior. Because everything is unofficial, it’s impossible to know. There’s also no video of the run.
According to its website a quarter-mile time is 9.23 seconds at 155 MPH, so there may be some truth to these claims. Dodge claimed that its Challenger RT Demon could run 9.65 seconds for quarter-miles, but it was nearly impossible to replicate this in real life. The Model S’s electric engine is not affected by the same atmospheric conditions as gasoline engines. Its all-wheel-drive system should permit for faster launches.
We’re eager to see if Model S Plaid delivers on its promises when production cars are delivered to owners. This could happen in July.
