Nissan’s compact sedan receives a much-needed makeover.
In 1982, the first Nissan Sentra was launched in the U.S. The compact sedan has been in American sales for 37 years, and the company has sold more than 6 million units. This makes it one of the most successful brands ever. Complete stop. The company’s most-sold American sedan must evolve with the market. Nissan will give the Sentra sedan an overhaul inside and out for 2020.
It is easy to see the 2020 Nissan Sentra’s visual connections with the larger Altima sedans and Maxima sedans as well as cross-overs such as the Kicks or Rogue. The V-Motion family grille is still present on the compact, as well as slim LED headlights (optional) and a floating roof. The Sentra comes with a range-topping SR trim, which includes a sport-style rear spoiler and larger 18-inch alloy wheels.
Sentra customers can choose from eight single-tone colors: Electric Blue/Bright Silver Metallic, Gun Metallic. Fresh Powder, Rosewood Metallic, Scarlet Ember, Aspen White, Aspen White, Fresh Powder and Aspen White are all options. There are three other two-tone options: Super Black/Gun Metallic and Super Black/Aspen White.
The Sentra’s shiny paint and attractive sheet metal is hiding a new platform. This platform reduces the car’s ride height and increases its width by 2.2 inches. The 2020 Nissan Sentra is more prominent than the previous versions and has better proportions. Nissan claims a quieter ride thanks to improvements in door, window and body sealing.
The 2020 Sentra’s engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The Sentra’s new engine replaces the 1.8-liter. It produces 149 horsepower (111 Kilowatts) as well as 145 pound-feet (297 Newton-meters). This is a 20 percent and 16% improvement over the previous model. A four-cylinder engine is paired with an “Xtronic”, continuously variable transmission. Nissan claims that gas mileage has improved, but it doesn’t have any official numbers.
The new Sentra comes standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen that supports Bluetooth and hands-free messaging, as well as a digital instrument cluster measuring 4.2 inches. The Sentra’s higher grades have a larger 8.0 inch screen with CarPlay or Android Auto. However, it will not require an upgrade to receive the latest safety equipment from Nissan.
All Sentra models come standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360. This suite includes automatic emergency brake with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear cross-traffic warning, lane departure notice, high-beam assistance, and rear braking.
For 2020, the Nissan Sentra is available in three grades or trims: SV, SR, and S. The base Sentra S comes standard with 16-inch wheels, remote access, keyless start, and standard 16 inch wheels. Upgrading to the SV model gives you 16-inch aluminum alloys and 205/60R16 all season tires. The larger 8.0-inch touchscreen has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and allows for cruise control with stop and go technology.
The SR model is the most expensive. The sporty Sentra gets the 16-inch rims replaced by larger 18-inch units with thicker 215/45R18 rubber tires. It also has a darkened V motion grille, standard LED headlights and running lights, as well as fog lamps and orange accent stitching. The price of the 2020 Nissan Sentra is not yet known. The 2020 Nissan Sentra goes on sale in 2020. We should have pricing information in the next few days.
