The 919 Hybrid Evo is incredibly fast.
After 35 years, records can still be broken. Timo Bernhard, a Porsche racing driver, used his 919 Hybrid Evo to complete the circuit in 5:19.54. This smashed Stefan Bellof’s previous record of 6:11.3 which he held back when he drove a Porsche 956 C.
It’s difficult to imagine a vehicle lapping the Nurburgring faster than this clip. Bernhard is an excellent pilot and the 919 Hybrid Evo a formidable machine. The engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter V4 engine that produces 710 horsepower (530kW) by itself, with two energy recovery systems providing an additional 434 HP (324 kW). You can hear the electric motors working in Bernhard’s lap if you listen closely. Porsche claims that he reached a top speed at 229.5 mph (369.4 km/h) and an average speed at 145.3 mph (2233.8 kph).
This record is unlikely to be broken anytime soon. The 919 Hybrid Evo is a high-performance vehicle. Therefore, a company would have to travel there in order to claim Porsche’s title. A Formula One car may not be fast enough. The Porsche was able to lap Spa-Francorchamps at 1:41.77, which is 0.783 seconds faster than Lewis Hamilton’s lap record from 2017.
Porsche designed the 919 Hybrid Evo to set course records all over the globe. It might even win a few more trophies this year. Porsche will bring it to the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 2, the Festival of Porsche Brands Hatch September 2 and the Porsche Rennsport Reunion Laguna Seca September 26-29. You will have the opportunity to get even more media attention by running insanely fast lap times at all of these places.
