Clubsport performance combines with a special appearance package
Is it really 45 years since the first hot hatchback graced the automotive market? It has been 45 years since the first hot hatchback appeared on the automotive scene. Volkswagen presents the Clubsport 45, a special 2021 GTI edition.
This is not surprising considering images showing the pocket rocket were leakedjust days ago. We now have all details from VW. This new version is based on GTI Clubsport. This means that the turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder produces 296 horsepower (221 kW) and drives the front wheels through a seven speed DCT. The Clubsport can reach 60 mph in just six seconds with the front-axle locking differential, and an upgraded Vehicle Dynamics Manager.
The Clubsport 45 is a cosmetic upgrade that enhances the Clubsport’s appearance. We use to refer to the version of the Clubsport 45. This is because VW offers an exclusive Race package which includes a sport exhaust. Clubsport’s speed limiter of 155 mph is also gone, but VW does not say how fast the 45 will go. Special 19-inch Scottsdale wheels are included in the Race package, which is finished in gloss black and has a red lip trim.
The GTI Clubsport skin is applied to the exterior. The Clubsport 45 enhancements consist of a black roof, rear spoiler and rear spoiler. VW claims this is in homage to the original 1976 GTI’s black-framed rear window. The side sills feature prominent stripes with 45 embellishments. A rear hatch has 45. You’ll find IQ.Light matrix LED headlights at the front. Inside, you’ll see a classic GTI emblem with GTI letters on the front-seat seat backrests. A further example of 45 is found at the base the steering wheel.
The Clubsport 45 Presales will begin in selected European countries beginning March 1. The price starts at EUR47,790 Euros. However, if you want to know how much it is in US currency, then don’t bother. The Clubsport is not expected to reach the US, but a VW spokesperson stated to Motor1.com there are no plans to ship the 45-inch Clubsport across the pond.
